2016 Nationals Update
U16 Nationals is entering the business end of the competition tonight, with Semifinals in the Division 1 Boys and Girls grades and the Division 2 Boys grade tomorrow.
Marist has a strong showing with 2 boys and girls teams each in Division 1, and two boys teams in Division 2.
On the boys side, Marist Red has made light work during pool play, winning all their games and coming out on top of Pool A. They dispensed of the fourth placed Hutt with ease in the quarter finals, giving them a straight road to the semis tomorrow.
Marist Blue had a mixed bag of results, but two solid wins on the first day ensured third spot in Pool B. Marist Blue met second placed Waikato tonight in the quarter finals. It was a tense, physical affair, with the lead flipping between the teams throughout the game. A 4-4 draw at full time lead to a penalty shoot out, in which Marist kept its nerve, going through on 5-4 penalty goals.
This means that both semi finals tomorrow will feature Marist: Marist Red vs Tauranga A at 4.30pm and Marist Blue vs NH Maroon at 5.25pm, both at Dio.
Marist White proved to be a strong team, coming out on top of their pool in Division 2, going into the round robin 1-4 games tonight at Westwave and already winning their first game today. Marist Black has had some tough battles, and came away with one win of the four pool games, putting them into fourth place in their pool Marist Black now plays off for 5-10 place, winning their first play off game.
On the girls side, Marist Red dispensed with all opposition throughout pool play, coming out on top of their pool and winning the quarter final against Mountfort Park also. This leads to another Marist Red - Tauranga A semi final tomorrow at 3.35pm at Dio (immediately before the boys semis).
Marist Blue had a tough road throughout pool play, coming agonisingly close in two games to a draw or win. They are playing off in the 9-12 round at Sacred Heart.
Best of luck to all Marist teams for the final two days of the competition.
Dear Marist U16 players,
Welcome back, we have a big year ahead. Most of you know me, but for those that don’t: I am taking on the U16 Boys coordinator role this year. (I am also the club uniform coordinator, so any questions about uniforms come into my inbox too.)
Term 1 Muster
This year, in preparation of Pan Pacs, the muster for the U16s is much earlier than usual, with training starting this Tuesday, 1 March, 7.15pm to 9.00pm at Sacred Heart.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it - it’s very short notice, and most players are involved in the Senior competition and training. Therefore, during Term 1, the Tuesday training is for whoever can make it and is keen to get additional time in the water. There is only one session per week for U16s in Term 1. Term 2 training will be confirmed in due course.
The coaches leading the U16 programme this year will be Matt Lewis and Olly Gibb.
Important dates this year:
If you got this email, but don’t want to play for Marist this year please let me know so that I can take you off the list and don’t bother you with unnecessary emails.
If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch. (Best via email, or mobile out of working hours)
Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday (if you can).

North Harbour made their way back into the game, with two goals from Matt Morris and one from Jack Brotherton for 6-4 after the first half.
Jake Blundell restored the Marist three-goal lead, before Logan Fuller nailed a top-corner shot for 7-5. Ben Fleming scored his second after a quick Marist man-up play to make the score 8-5. North Harbour surged back into the match 8-7 with goals from Jack Brotherton and Rowan Brown. Hamish Waddell made the Marist lead two heading into the last quarter.
