2013 Season

Marist vs Waitakere - Fri 19th Apr

Tonight the Marist Magic welcomed Richard Small, a past Marist player who has been living and playing in Australia for the last couple of years, back into the team. With two of our senior players, Dan Jackson and Jacques Venter, unable to play tonight, it was great to have Richard back in the pool playing with the boys as they came up against the Waitakere Blue Devils. Our boys were fast on attack and strong in defence, remaining in front throughout and making seven field blocks in the course of the game. It was a 20-8 victory for the Marist Magic (4-2; 7-3; 12-5; 20-8) with goal scorers being Eamon (6), Eddie and Fabian (3), Matt and Andy (2), Sefa, Richard, Jeff and Ben (1) Tomorrow is an important game for our boys as they play their final game at home against North Harbour in the last shield match for the season, before they head to Wellington on May 4-5 for finals weekend. GO MARIST MAGIC!!!

 Report : C. Lewis

2010 Marist Magic Men

06.06.2010. Marist Magic Men take Bronze.

After the disappointment of yesterdays loss in their semi final, the Marist Magic Men bounced back to win the Bronze medal play off, defeating Maranui 11 - 7.

The game was fast and furious with the first quarter ending with Marist ahead 3 - 2 after goals to Ben Pye, Shaun Venter and Paul Swindells.

The second quarter sea sawed to 7 - 5 with goals to Adrew Sieprath, Paul Swindells, Daniel Jackson and ? (sorry someone talked to me) before Marist coach Kurt Goldsworthy was ejected from the bench because it appeared the ref didn't like the way Kurt laughed at him.

Josh Campbell, assistant coach stepped up to demand better from the men and the team responded with another two goal to Daniel Jackson and Paul Swindells while a slight miscalculation in the Marist goal gifted Maranui a goal. Marist lead 9 - 6

Paul Swindells capped off a "Magic" night with 2 more goals in the last quarter, to take his game total to four, to also go with the National League title he wins as coach of the womens team. Maranui added a final goal to leave the final score at 11 - 7 to Marist.

Congratulations to Kurt Goldsworthy, Toby Devine, Phil Howart, Paul Swindells, Leon Savov, Shaun Venter, Richard Small, Josh Campbell, Matt Reid, Andrew Sieprath, Olaf Adam, John Ware, Ben Pye, Daniel Jackson, Mark Collins, Michael Parr, Nick Buist, Aiden Thornhill, Mark Baker and Eddie Thomas.

The club also extends its thanks to all those family, friends and supporters that made the trek out to North Harbour in support of our teams.

05.06.2010. Marist Magic in 3rd, 4th Play off.

Unfortunately the Marist magic men lost to North Harbour 11 - 8 and will meet Maranui in the third , forth play off 2.30pm MISH. No game report yet.

Come on Marist !! attendance at the game was a little poor. Lets get there in FORCE !!!! please.

2009 National Mens League DRAW

       DRAW                                                                                                 SWIM TRAINING

26.07.2009 Marist Senior Update July 2009  ... From Kurt

National league

The 2009 National League has concluded. The Men where placed fourth. The Women after winning the Minor Premiership lost in a Penalty Shootout (12-11) in the Final after both normal and extra time where tied. It was an extremely exciting game and missed opportunities during both normal and extra time in the front court unfortunately cost the girls. Captain Anna Sieprath top scored with 5 goals in the match.

Auckland Senior league

The Marist Red mens and Senior Womens sides both won the Auckland water Polo Championship. The girls won the Ralph Challenge Shield (first presented in 1918) in emphatic style 9-7. They girls lead throughout over North Sport opening up a 5-1 margin by the conclusion of the first period and never really looked in doubt. They have now won this historic title for the last 8 years-an outstanding achievement. The Red Mens side avenged there fourth placing at Nationals and overcame the National League Champions, North Sport in a tighter game. The men played very well during all four periods, something they had failed to do in the National League. Club Captain, Olaf Adam, was outstanding in the final two matches of the competition.

Pelorus Trust NZ Open

Both Marist Red and Blue Senior Mens sides competed in this tournament. The Blue side unfortunately failed to register a win but were competitive in every game. The Red side won the final beating, the NZ Junior Mens side 6-5. The guys came from 0-3 down in the first and really shored up there defence for the remainder of the game. Mark Baker in the goal played his best game for the season and again Olaf Adam and Phil Howat where instrumental in the victory. Olaf Adam was rewarded with his first ever individual award when he won an Outstanding Player Award.

The Men-s side was unlucky Sunday, going down 11-10 in the final quarter to the Hutt Heat - last years silver medalists. Marist led into the final quarter but Hutt scored the last 2 goals to clinch the nail biter.

Support is needed again this weekend (last weekends crowd was not big enough!!) Marist Magic takes on the Maranui sides from Wellington. The women play 12 noon and the Men at 1.30pm - both games are on Sunday March 15th at the Sacred Heart Pool... Supporters tee shirts on sale again for $20 and there will be the Marist Magic Candy there as well.– Chris Hayward

The Marist Men had an easy 18 - 5 winning match getting on top of the Christchurch team in the opening quarter to open up a 5-1 lead. From there the men eased into a goal scoring spree to extend their lead to 11-2 before QE11 clawed their way back slightly to win the 3rd quarter but again regain their rhythm in the last quarter which they took 5-0. The Magic men meet the Hutt Heat next Sunday March 8th at 1.30pm and hope a large crowd will be along to support. There will be Marist Magic Supporters tee shirts on sale for $20 in both male and female fits, and a new feature will be Marist Magic Candy for sale and for giveaways for the kids...Brings your supporters colours for both matches. - Chris Hayward

The Marist Magic ventures south this weekend to take on the QE11 Crushers in Christchurch during the 3rd weekend of games in the National Men’s and Women’s Water Polo League. QE11 had a mixed opening set of games with their women’s team losing to North Harbour and then turning around and beating Hutt. The QE11 Men were not so fortunate losing to both North Harbour and the Hutt Heat. The games will be played during the South Island Secondary Schools Championships opening up the possibilities of many younger players in the South Island who rarely see a senior men’s and women’s game to come poolside to watch. - Chris Hayward

The Marist Magic had a mixed set of opening games to their 2009 National League season at Sacred Heart yesterday. The Magic Women had a shock loss to League newcomers Waitakere going down 6-5. The Magic women drew within one goal of the Waitakere team in the third quarter after being down 1-5 at one stage, but couldn’t find the back if the net to equalise. All credit to the Waitakere women as they played a smart game. The Marist Magic Men had a convincing opening win against the Waitakere Blue Devils winning 20-12 in a high scoring encounter which was played at a frenetic pace. Cameron Lowther scored 9 goals whilst Marist recruit Ben Pye netted 3 in his first appearance.

Both teams venture south next Saturday to play the QE11 Crushers in Christchurch, then its back to a home game on Sunday March 8th when Marist hosts the Hutt Heat from Lower Hutt. Thanks to the many supporters who turned up for the Waitakere game - we want to see the stands packed again for the Hutt games where we will have special Marist Magic Rock Candy for all the children and adults to buy, as well as Marist Magic Tee Shirts - The candy will be $2 a bag and the Tee Shirts $20 each. – Chris Hayward

11.06.2008 Both Marist Magic teams had no trouble scoring comprehensive wins last Sunday in front of a large home crowd. The women left nothing to chance against North Harbour winning 14 - 7 while the men dominated Hutt Heat in their 9 - 5 win. This Friday will see both teams in action on the North Shore (Millennium Institute) taking on the local rivals in the rematch. The women swim off at 6.30 and the men at 8.00 pm respectively.

20.05.2008 North Harbour inflicted a painful defeat on Marist last Friday night punishing the Magic for poor execution. After score being locked for most of the game it was North Harbour who scored the winning goal from 6 on 5 with only 3 seconds left on the clock. Marist displayed similarly poor execution in Saturday’s clash against Maranui but managed to secure a win over the visitor. On Sunday the Magic got their shots on target beating QE II from Christchurch convincingly. The team is now in 2nd place behind unbeaten North Harbour.

National League starts soon

Marist’s senior players are slowly getting in shape for this year’s competitions. 2006 will see some changes, especially in the National Championships that are now merged with the National League. After a double round robin commencing from February till May the top two teams will automatically qualify for the National Championships Semi Finals while the teams ranking 3rd till 6th will play a play off. Those games will be played at the Final Championship tournament replacing the National Championship tournament, until now run as separate competition. For detailed information on the new shape of the Senior National Championship click here.

The first official team training will be on Tuesday, 24th of January at 7.30 pm. Click here for more information.
