What a fantastic 3-day tournament in Tauranga....25 teams, 118 games. All our 3 Marist teams have done so well; they played hard, listened to feedback, learned a lot and improved during the tournament.
I would like to thank the parents for their amazing support pool side and at camp. A huge thanks to our wonderful managers Rob, Jane and Davina for ensuring their teams were in the right place at the right time and ready to play.
Thanks to Reza, TJ, Ben, Ryan, Sarah and Kian for coaching the teams and looking after them at the camp site.
And last but not least, Aisling for managing everything at camp, along with her trusty sidekicks Davina and Alexa. Between them they looked after and fed 40+ people!
This is only possible because of all the support.
Thank you again!

Sunday 14th August the Vodafone Warriors, as part of their recovery session turned up at the Marist Under 12 training to give Water Polo a go.
Fully kitted out in Marist caps, and a number of flotation aids, the Warriors appear to have a good idea around the basics of the game. Although the transition to only being allowed to catch the ball with one hand was an issue.
Captain, Ryan Hoffman, looked at home in the pool, scoring a nice backhand early in the game, and was overheard saying “I’m totally knackered” at half time break. Thomas Leuluai spent a lot of game time on the edge of the pool, only entering when a goal was on.
Solomone Kata looked to be the pick of the goalies’ despite the flotation aid and Manu looked just as big and dangerous in the pool as he does on the League field.
Much to the Under 12s delight the Warriors remained after the game for autographs and photos.
Some shots, taken by Peter Gardner, of the kids are the Genai Kerr clinic sponsored by Sacred Heart Water Polo.
The Clinic was organised by Marist's Chris Hayward and as can be seen from the photo, Marist players were there in force.
Received a rousing reception by parents and players alike

I would like to thank the Managers for all their hard work, looking after the kids, making sure that they were all present and correct, well fed and watered. It’s a hard and busy 3 days for them, and they pulled it off seamlessly.
The coaches were amazing, they kept the kids focussed and engaged throughout – and I think that the results speak for themselves.
Thank you to the parents for your great support at the games.
The children- were energetic, sweet, funny – and hard working – they played each game with such spirit, and improved and learnt with every game. I do hope that they had a great weekend.
A massive thank you to Jane Danielson, being “Camp Mum” and keeping everything running smoothly at camp – it’s a huge job, and one that Jane does amazingly, she puts a lot of work into this role beforehand and during, to make sure everything is taken care of.
And lastly, a massive thank you to Super Head Coach Cynthia, whose passion and energy for the kids and the sport has driven the whole programme. She sat in on every game that she could, supporting the coaches and children, it’s no mean feat. Enjoy a few weeks off Cynthia!

After retiring from active water polo a few years ago, former Club Captain Olaf Adam took to ocean swimming to counter his growing "dad-bod".
(Swimming is easier to fit around his busy family life at the moment.) Together with a couple of workmates Olaf decided to put his skills to the ultimate test for a charitable purpose.
The idea to organise a fundraising swim from Waiheke to Auckland was born and on the 31st of March Olaf, together with 11 others, will attempt to swim over 20km through open water, raising funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. If he can finish, Olaf expects to take between 5 to 6 hours, weather-dependent. He's never done anything like this before but has been assured by his more experienced companions that it will hurt. A lot.
Please make it worthwhile and support the great cause by sponsoring Olaf via Everyday Hero [https://Chopper-Swim-Challenge-Waiheke-to-Auckland.everydayhero.com/nz/olaf-adam], check out, "like" and share the the team's Facebook page [https://www.facebook.com/20kChopperSwimChallenge/]

20/12/2015 - Bronze for Marist Red at Div 1 Nationals
Not the result we hoped for… though the boys played their heart out in the semi finals. That it came down to penalty shoot out was unfortunate, because Tauranga’s goalie (eventual MVP of the tournament) didn’t get that title for nothing.
Had the semis been against North Harbour, it would likely have been a different outcome.
Still, both Red boys and girls got Bronze.
Marist Blue boys finished on a high, beating North Harbour B in the play offs for 11/12th - making them the best B boys team of the competition ;-)
Marist Blue girls came 6th, putting them right in the middle of the group.
Well done to all, and thank you particularly to the coaches and managers who made the tournament possible, and the players who played their hardest in every game.

15/12/2015 - Division 2 boys teams Update
Marist Navy and Marist White will meet each other today in the semi finals, with Navy being unbeaten so far, and White winning their quarter final against North Harbour C.
Marist Black is playing in the Plate final, playing for 9/10th place today. Marist Black only marginally missed out on playing in the top 8 (due to a last 6 second goal by Tauranga C ending that game in a draw, and on goal differential Tauranga going through into the top 8).
Looking good all round for Marist.
12 December 2015 - Auckland league Finals.
Congratulations to the Marist Under 14 Red Boys who took out the Silver medals after missing out 7 - 3 to North Harbour in the Auckland League finals today.
Marist were missing a number of key players who were away at the Trans Tasman tournament and will be looking to g one better at Div 1 National's next week.
Good Luck to Olly and the boys.

Congratulations also to Marist Blue, who took out the Bronze medals at the Auckland league finals. The result shows the great depth Marist has in this age group. Good Luck to Jeremy and the team at Nationals next week.

Marist Red Girls also won Silver medals at finals after missing out to North Harbour 6 - 2. Good Luck to Jessica and the girls at Nationals.
Div 2 Nationals Report:
At the Div 2 Nationals, our 3 Marist teams have had two games each on the first day.
Marist Black lost to Hibiscus Coast 11:4, which is a good result, considering that Hibiscus Coast played in Division 1 in the Auckland league. Marist Black then lost 10:2 to North Harbour C. Unfortunately, the Marist goalie got injured and was out of play for the second game. Fingers crossed, he’ll be back in action tomorrow.
Marist White lost narrowly to Tauranga B 5:3.
Marist Navy won over Marist White 16:3, and over Palmerston North Boys High 28:2.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the Marist Water Polo Club’s inaugural President and Chairman, Bruce Kearney. Bruce passed away early on Sunday morning after a very short illness.
Bruce along with the Tamariki whanau, Matt Filipo , Chris Hayward and Marist brother , Kevin Kneebone, initiated the formation of the Marist Water Polo Club from the bar inside the Marist Rugby Clubrooms in 1988. Elected as the club’s first Chairman he steered the club through those early years.
Originally from Rotorua , where he also helped the Rotorua Water Polo Club whilst his three sons were at Rotorua BHS, Bruce was a champion surf liver saver as NZ Champion, was equally involved in Surf Life Saving in the Bay of Plenty at Maketu and Mount Maunganui and at United North Piha , gaining service award in Surf.
The family moved to Auckland in the mid 1980’s where they purchased a home in Takapuna/Devonport. The three sons and daughter attended Takapuna Grammar and were all involved in Marist Water Polo at an administrative and competive level.
Eldest son, Darren, managed to make it back from London to see Bruce the day before he passed away.
Bruce will be farewelled at the Rowleys funeral home in Ann Street, Devonport on Wednesday at 11am
Haere ra, Bruce – you will be missed by all your family in the Bay of Plenty , Piha and Devonport
Over the weekend a group of Under 14 boys were selected to attend a development tournament in Rotorua.
With development the key focus of the weekend, the boys learnt a great deal of skills with many of them having never played with a shot clock before. From thr first game to the last, the standard of play from them dramatically improved which was pleasing for both the coaches and parents alike. Although they came away winless, the boys turn their focus to the up coming Auckland league where they can apply their newly acquired skills.
Our very own super women celebrated her ?? birthday with a surprise party at training Tuesday night.
Well done to all involved and Happy Happy BIrthday Angie

After the buzz of winning the National Championship just 10 days ago. the Marist Magic Women stepped up again and took out the double by winning the Auckland title on Wed night (20 May 15). The girls made a great start and at one stage controlled the game with a 5-0 lead just before haf time. Harbour came back in the 3rd Quarter but the Magic stuck to their game plan with strong defence and well executed attacks. In winning the girls secured what is believed to be he oldest water polo trophy in the world! The Ralph Shield was first contested in 1918 and Chris Hayward ressurected the trophy and presented it to Captain Sarah Johns on the night. The girls were honoured to receive such a special trophy with such tradition and history. Congratulations girls - a great season

MARIST MAGIC: Jess Milicich, Nicole Lewis, Ricci Ferigo (1), Hannah Klein, Simone Lewis, Annabel Harman, Sarah Johns/Pattison (2), Emma Stoneman (1), L Clarke, Kelly Mason, Sam Schubert (1), Katherine Curnow.
Angie Winstanley-Smith, S Brookes, Jo Milich-Misikini
NORTH HARBOUR EARCON ACOUSTICS: Brooke Millar, Sarah Doyle, Nat Seabourn, Megan Perry, Nina Lala, Sarah Landry, Chelsea Geary (3), Taylor Sheehan, Barbara Ipacs, Ema Carevic, Liana Dance (1), Jaz Myles, Kate Henderson.
Emma Stoneman opened the scoring for the match with a goal from a deflection off North Harbour goalkeeper Brooke Millar, but Liana Dance responded in the next attack with a bar-down shot that rolled over the goal line. Chelsea Geary managed to find the back of the net for North Harbour to take the lead 2-1.
Finals jitters were apparent as two time-outs and three exclusions led to no goals at the end of the first quarter.
Sarah Johns scored early for Marist in the second quarter to level the score at 2-2, but North Harbour's Chelsea Geary slipped another past Marist's Katherine Curnow to edge out to 2-3.
Geary made her tally three in third quarter when she scored at 6:18 to push Harbour's lead out to two for the first time. Her work was quickly squandered as Marist bounced back with two goals within 33 seconds from Sam Schubert and Ricci Ferigo. Schubert's goal was a quick one-two with Hannah Klein after an exclusion.
Another three exclusions and two timeouts lead to nothing and the two sides were to stare down the barrel of a tough final eight minutes with the scores sitting 4-4 level.
Ricci Ferigo won the swim-off for Marist, and Geary was excluded for North Harbour, allowing Sarah Johns to score her second and take the lead 5-4 with 6:26 left in the final. Nothing was working in attack for both sides, and two last minute timeouts allowed Marist to kill the time and with it take the 2015 New Zealand Water Polo National League title.
This is the tenth time that Marist has won the championship, and ends North Harbour's four-year winning streak.
Congratulations to MVP : Emma Stoneman
